Earlier this week it was announced that John Hornby Skewes – founder of equipment distributor JHS – will be retiring from the business, following a successful 56-year career that got under way when he started his own company in the 1960s.

JHS – which took its name from its founder’s initials – is an equipment distribution business with a long history in the musical instrument and pro audio industry, having been started by Mr. Skewes back in 1965. According to his statement, Mr. Skewes will resign as Executive Chairman on the 31st of March 2016, while he and his wife Madge will retire from the Board of Directors on the 30th of June.

“I take this opportunity to thank all the many employees, customers, suppliers, support service providers and members of the press who have worked with me over all these years,” said Mr. Skewes. “Without this support John Hornby Skewes & Co Ltd would not have succeeded. My wife and I are very grateful.”

He continued: “The company continues as a family owned and family run business with our son-in-law and daughter – Dennis and Linda Drumm – heading up a board of dedicated and experienced directors and a team of many talented employees. The company looks forward to many more years of partnership with its many industry friends.”

Currently, JHS is responsible for the UK distribution of HK Audio PA systems, along with a range of other product lines, including everything from electric guitars, acoustic instruments, amplification and karaoke, to cases, bags, stands and other accessories.

More information about JHS and its range of products can be found on the company’s website.
