FBT has released two new VERTUS models – the CLA 406A and CLA 118SA – which the company hopes will extend true line-array technology to a range of applications, including as a live audio solution for mobile DJs.
The new system is a larger version of FBT’s popular VERTUS portable line array, offering classic Italian design and utilising the company’s acoustic expertise to provide mobile DJs with a high-quality sound system that boasts refined but functional design and compact dimensions.
The VERTUS CLA 406A and CLA 118SA have been designed to distribute sound in a more uniform way than traditional two-way speakers, even when used outdoors, making them ideal for mobile DJs that work a range of events that require them to bring quality sound to function rooms, marquees and outdoor areas alike. This quality sound is down to the cylindrical-wave front of the CLA systems, which helps project the sound forwards in a precise and coherent way, avoiding the reverberant performance associated with conventional speakers.
The cabinet of the CLA 406A column is made of birch plywood, with internal metal bracing to ensure stability. The enclosure is also fitted with two aluminium handles, 12 attachment points for easy but flexible positioning, and a 35mm top-hat for mounting the speaker onto a stand.
Inside this cabinet, users will find four custom 165mm woofers and a large-format Neodymium compression driver, with its class-D amplifiers (with switching power supply) offering 600W (LF) and 300W (HF) rms. The CLA 406A also gives users access to a control panel with XLR input and link, volume, presets, delay, filter-HP and ground-lift, allowing mobile DJs to easily adjust settings to suit the event they are working. The system is also fitted with Neutrik powerCON in/link connectors, for secure setup.
The CLA 118SA subwoofer is also cased in birch plywood, housing a 460mm woofer in a bass reflex port with an extensive laminar airflow, minimising turbulence and power compression. Rated at 1200W, its class-D power amplifier, with switching mode power supply, is constructed in die-cast aluminium with natural convection.
FBT has also ensured that the new VERTUS systems are compact and portable, giving mobile DJs an active line array system that not only offers well-dispersed, quality sound but can also be used in a range of venues with limited space.
