For 2018, we’re combining and expanding our annual Lifetime Achievement Award and Gear of the Year poll to create the new Pro Mobile Awards. Voted for by you, Pro Mobile’s readers, the new awards are designed to bring together the mobile DJ industry within the UK and Ireland to acknowledge and celebrate excellence.
“At Pro Mobile, we’re passionate about the mobile DJ industry and want to see it continue to develop and grow,” commented magazine Editor, Eddie Short. “We also like to give credit where it’s due, which is why we’re launching the Pro Mobile Awards to recognise the people, products and companies who are helping to push things forward.”
The inaugural awards in 2018 will feature eight categories, predominantly focused on equipment (building on the success of Gear of the Year) but also honouring some individuals (continuing the legacy of the Pro Mobile Lifetime Achievement Award). We’re currently inviting manufacturers to nominate their products for the equipment categories. To be eligible, a piece of equipment must fit within the relevant category, be suitable for use by mobile DJs and have first been released for sale between the 1st of January and 31st of December 2017. The short list for the equipment categories will be announced in the next issue of the magazine and then it will be up to you to decide on the winners through online voting that will run from the 1st to the 31st of March.
The voting process for the ‘DJ’s DJ’ category will be a little bit different, as there will be no shortlist. With this award we want to honour someone from within the DJ industry who has gone above and beyond in helping and inspiring other DJs. When completing the online voting form for the other categories, you will have the opportunity to nominate someone for the ‘DJ’s DJ’ category and also submit a short explanation of why you feel they are worthy of the award. In choosing the recipient, we will take into consideration the number of nominations an individual receives, but more credence will be given to the reasons behind the nominations.
The only award that won’t involve reader selection is the Outstanding Contribution to the Industry (Living Legend) award. This is the new name we’ve given to the Pro Mobile Lifetime Achievement Award and will honour an individual who has made a big impact to both Pro Mobile and the mobile DJ industry in general. The recipient will be decided by the Pro Mobile editorial team and join the ranks of past honourees Derek Pengelly, Andy Tain, Roger Squire and Mark Walsh.
The winners will then be announced and presented with their awards live during the Sunday evening Gala Dinner at the 2018 Pro Mobile Conference on the 15th of April at the Forest of Arden Marriott in Warwickshire. The dinner is included for all Full Conference Delegates, but seats are also available to book separately – priced at £69 – if you can’t make the rest of the Conference but would like to attend just for the evening. As well as readers, we’re expecting lots of representatives from equipment brands and retailers to attend, so it’s set to be a great evening of networking and socialising for the whole mobile DJ industry. For more information about the Conference, or to book your place at either the Awards Dinner or full two-day event, head to: www.mobiledjconference.co.uk.
If you work for an equipment brand or retailer and would like to be shortlisted for an award, drop an email to rachel@promobile.org.uk for more details.
