The 2021 Pro Mobile Awards were due to be presented as part of the Gala Dinner and Entertainment at Pro Mobile Conference in Solihull. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the conference has been postponed for the second time to March 2022, however, by teaming up with our normal production company Kent Media Group, the winners of the awards were announced as planned via a live video broadcast across social media from the Kent Media Group Studios in Kent.
In past years, there has been eight awards, mainly focusing on equipment, but also honouring some individuals. The shortlists for the first six categories were published in the last issue of the magazine – and online – but the winners were chosen by Pro Mobile readers through an online vote. This year saw the addition of 2 'Special Recognition Awards', so for the first time, we presented 10 awards for our unique industry. We had a truly fantastic response to this, with over 1000 DJs contributing their opinion. This means that these awards are presented by Pro Mobile, but on behalf of all of our readers – normally hard-working DJs that have been stuck at home with very few events and weddings over the last year whilst we are still recovering from the COVID-19 global pandemic.
The ‘DJs' DJ award recognises an individual who has gone above and beyond to help or inspire other DJs. When voting for the other award categories, we asked readers to nominate someone they felt was deserving of the ‘DJs' DJ’ title and also submit a short description of why they felt that particular individual was worthy of the award. The winner was selected not only based on the number of nominations that an individual received but also the reasons behind the nomination.
Finally, the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award is the only one that hasn’t been voted for by readers. Since 2013, we have presented one award each year recognising an individual who has made a big impact on the mobile DJ industry and also on Pro Mobile. As usual, the Pro Mobile team selected the winner of this award to acknowledge and thank the winner for their positive impact and dedication to both the industry and the magazine.
